Dr. Sanjukta Basu is the Founding Editor of Women and Gender News. Over a period of more than 20 years she has worn many hats. A lawyer, journalist, photographer, feminist scholar, social media entrepreneur, feminist academic and above all, an inspiration for young women. Coming from an ordinary background Sanjukta Created an identity and carved out her place in the world on her own. She did it without bending for or conforming to social rules and conventions, she did it without appeasing to any clubs or sides whether right or left, and let her work force the world to sit up and pay attention to her.

Sanjukta started her career in 2002 as a junior lawyer and soon shifted to feminist legal research. Owing to her interest in writing and digital media, in 2009, she transitioned to the role of Communications and outreach person in the non-profit sector. By 2016 she moved to freelance journalism and editorial role. She last worked with National Herald as Editorial Consultant which she quit in March 2022 to focus on her PhD thesis. In September 2023, she was awarded the PhD Degree for her research on Women’s Political Space on the Internet and the Case of Gender Trolling.
